Vans Shoes was founded in 1966 by Paul Van Doren with the simple idea of selling his Vans Shoes directly to the public instead of going through an agent or middle man. The first Vans Shoes stores opened in Anaheim, South California on March 15th, 1966. At this time there were only 3 styles of Vans Shoes to choose from.
Vans Shoes was such a small and tight little operation that the 12 people that came into the store that morning picked their Vans shoes, colours and styles but Paul and Co. didn't actually have them in stock to sell. Paul asked the customers to return in the afternoon to pick up their Vans shoes, they then rushed back to the factory where they made the shoes to order.
